Description: Monument of Gratitude to France, a work of the sculptor Ivan Meštrović, raised at Kalemegdan as a token of friendship, mutual help and cooperation of Serbia and France in World War I was formally unveiled on the 11th November 1930. Founder of the first Serbian film newsreel Kosta Novaković did a coverage from this event, from which only a three-minute part is preserved: the speech of Belgrade city municipality President Dr. Milan Nešić on behalf of the Committee for raising monuments and speech of the French Minister Champetier de Ribes; details of the monument and gathered citizens; departure of important guests in front of the royal box – Serbian and French officers and members of associations of French-Thessaloniki warriors Poali d'Orian, and group of French university professors in their traditional togas.
